Description
This one year course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success when moving towards a career in the uniformed public services. This course is fairly practical and suits students who are looking for a more adventurous pathway into the public services. There will be elements of written theory work which is supported by practical activities such as teamwork, leadership skills, land and water-based adventurous activities and, of course, fitness. The course will also enable you to experience aspects of several different public services in the way of industrey visits and taster events.

Course Content
Over the course you will studying the following units:
- Public Service Skills
- Career Planning for the Public Services
- Improving Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services
- Employment in the Uniformed Public Services
- Adventurous Activities and Teamwork for the Public Services
- Sport and Recreation in the Public Services
- Expedition Skills in Public Services
The course also includes nationally recognised additional qualifications in Sports Leadership and there will be an opportunity to gain National Governing Body Awards in kayaking and canoeing.
Entry Requirements
BTEC Level 1 qualification in Public Services or a related vocational area, an intermediate GNVQ in an appropriate vocational area, four GCSEs at Grade D or above including English and Maths, related work experience, interest in outdoor adventure/sport. Minimum age 16.
Next Step?/Employment
Professional Outdoor Instructor , Subsidiary/Extended Diploma in Outdoor Adventure or Public Services. Public or armed services, outdoor activity centres, coastguard, holiday centres, sports/leisure centres, schools, colleges and universities, youth leadership.
