This course is designed to investigate the evolving demands of the music industry. At the heart of the course lies the development of professional practice through the exploration of traditional and contemporary musical models.

The course introduces and develops practical skills, theoretical knowledge, modes of thought and academic practice in an investigation of the musician as creator and performer within sonic arts framework.

This course is designed to investigate the evolving demands of the music industry. At the heart of the course lies the development of professional practice through the exploration of traditional and contemporary musical models.

The course introduces and develops practical skills, theoretical knowledge, modes of thought and academic practice in an investigation of the musician as creator and performer within sonic arts framework.

Students will develop their academic knowledge alongside their subject-based skills, producing a final product which may be a performance, installation or other medium that explores the use of sonic arts. Students will also gain specific vocational skills, with the option of following units in either musical direction or music technology system design.

The course takes account of the variety of activities common within the music and creative industries, and this is reflected in the range of group and individual activities with increased autonomy being given as the course progresses.

This course would suit both performing musicians and music technologists.

Students should possess, or expect the achieve, ONE of the following in a music-related subject area:

  • Foundation Degree (FdA)
  • Higher National Diploma (HND)
  • Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE)
  • A higher education-level programme in another field of study with relevant industrial experience

Mature students with significant professional experience and a higher qualification in an appropriate subject area are welcome to apply.
