Counselling for Beginners

This course is for anyone interested in developing listening skills, gaining an understanding of the counselling process and developing personal insights and self-awareness.

What do you need to apply for the course?

Counselling skills are taught on many different levels. To gain a broad background knowledge of the subject it is essential that students consider an Introductory course. This type of course is open to students of all backgrounds, and does not require that you have experience of working in the therapeutic field. You do not need any formal qualifications, simply an interest in Counselling.

You will learn the definition of Counselling, Counselling Settings, Attending Skills, Non-Verbal Communication, Active Listening Skills, The essential qualities required for a helping interview/process. Theoretical approaches/ models and Endings. Ethical use of skills.

You will learn through: Tutor’s input, Small Group Work, Large Group Discussion, Trio Skills Practice, Experiential Exercises and (Journal Writing – Optional).
