The BTEC Level 3 Diploma is a one-year programme of study that allows learners to focus on the skills of counselling and introduces them to different theoretical approaches. The qualification is designed to be work-related and to enable students to develop counselling skills and theoretical knowledge. Many people working in a variety of professions are increasingly using counselling skills in their jobs. In recognition of this, this qualification is designed to develop learners as counselling skills practitioners. The qualification includes units introducing the main theoretical approaches to counselling, counselling skills and professional and ethical issues.

Course content
The qualification consists of five units:
- Unit 1: Developing counselling skills
- Unit 2: Theoretical approaches in the use of counselling
- Unit 3: Working ethically with counselling skills
- Unit 4: Counselling skills and diversity
- Unit 5: Counselling skills and personal development
Teaching and assessment
All units will be assessed. You must pass all five units to achieve the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Developing Counselling skills. Teaching will be experiential, skills practice and lectures.
Entry requirements
Students must be at least 20 years of age. Full Level 2 counselling or a Level 2 qualification in a related area with GCSEs or equivalent in English and maths. Evidence of work experience required.

£120 BTEC registration fee (approx)
Progression
Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling or employment. Entry to this course is subject to successful completion of the Level 3 course and a formal interview.
