Acting for Film - Level 1

"I took the acting course last September @ MET. It was my first ever Acting course, i wud mention, it was well-organised, we all did learn something in the course. However, the course is definitely COSTLY for what it offers. Secondly, the course price included a showreel at the end of the course, it is 4 months now, MET hasn't bothered to send us the showreels citing excuses like someone's father is sick & a rather unprofessional approach to the whole thing. OVERALL, i would say the old established institutions of London are recommended rather than this money-concerned people." - 24-04-2012 19:01

Taught by a professional actor and professional film director along with leading drama coaches, you will act in a series of filmed exercises that will be analysed in class so that you can improve your performances as the course progresses. You will also learn what it is like to be on the other side of the camera by directing and acting as crew (operating the camera, recording sound) on a number of short exercises. At the end of this acting course, you will be given a DVD of the scenes that you and your fellow actors have acted in.

Please note you have to be at least 18 years old to take this course.

Learning Goals

By the end of the course, you will:

- Have gained more confidence in acting for the camera by understanding the filmmaking process in its entirety

- Know the difference between acting for theatre and acting for film

- Know and to have practiced the tools necessary to create a believable performance on screen

- Have come up with valuable tools for the actor to prepare for a screen performance including how to interpret a script

- Understand the technical aspects of film acting such that the actor feels confident on the set and can give the director (and camera operator) what they want

- Be able to read a script and identify whether the characters are 3-dimensional or not

- Have gained an insight into how to survive as an actor in the marketplace
