In order to undertake the City and Guilds certification, it is necessary to attend two courses.

This course is suitable for intermediates.  Learn several different styles of arrangements suitable for home and special occasions.  City & Guilds accreditation is undertaken as part of the course, please ask your tutor for information.  An additional cost is incurred for (optional) registration, course materials and flowers, per session, depending on individual choice.

General & First Session:    Pen and paper for taking notes. List of requirements will be sent or Emailed a week before the first session.

Course Aim & Objective: 

To introduce the basics of floristry to enable learners to gain confidence in arranging flowers for home and special occasions.  By the end of this course you should be able to: identify different styles of arrangement; identify appropriate flowers and foliage; use suitable containers and equipment; use wiring techniques; use principles of design; evaluate your own work.

Assessment: 

Ongoing.  Peer assessment is an important part of the sessions, also tutors observation of the finished arrangements, plus discussion. 

Course Syllabus: 

A challenging course for the more experienced flower arranger where you will learn a range of designs, suitable for home and special occasions.  City & Guilds accreditation is undertaken as part of the course.  Evaluate and produce a workbook to complement your practical assignments for the course assessment.

To include:

  • Health and safety issues, theory, colour wheel, conditioning of flowers etc.
  • Hand tied items.
  • Garland, wall hanging & sphere.
  • Decorative table arrangements.
  • Wired items; shower bouquet, Victorian posy and circlet.

Possible course units are:

  • 7112-600 Floral design wired items,
  • 7112-602 Hand tied bouquets,
  • 7112-601 Decorative table arrangements.
  • Sampling – Exploring Potential of Ideas and Materials 7112 -002

You will be able to gain an Award for successful completion of each of C & G units on this course, or you can register for a C & G Certificate.  A Certificate will require successful completion of four individual units at level 2, two of which are the 'Design for Craft unit 7112-001' and the 'Sampling – Exploring Potential of Ideas and Materials 7112 -002', plus two subject (Flower) units.   An opportunity to 'carry forward' the Design for Craft unit 7112-001will be available to those learners who have previously completed the shorter C & G 7111 Beginners course.

If you wish to work toward the Certificate and you are not already registered for such,  then you will need to do so during this course.
