An ideal introduction for school leavers who seek a career in the countryside and rural environments. The Level 2 Diploma provides the practical skills and knowledge that will help you gain employment in the industry. You will acquire a wide range of knowledge, practical skills and industry experience from both your studies and your work experience within a local business. The course includes habitat conservation, woodland ecology, estate skills and machinery operation.

Course Content
The course consists of the following six units:

- Work related experience
Plus Game management and pest control.
Functional Skills in numeracy and literacy will also be developed − the level will depend upon your qualifications at entry. Completion of the Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades A* to C.
3 days per week and undertake work experience within a local countryside business or organisation 2 days per week. The course is delivered by lectures, practical instruction, demonstration and visits. Approximately half the time in college involves practical work.
College Days - Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (TBC)
Additional qualifications
NPTC Certificate of Competence in Brushwood Cutters and Strimmers. First Aid and Manual Handling,Tractor Driving Certificate (NPTC) and NVQ Level 1 Land-based Operations.
Entry Requirements
Interest and enthusiasm in the countryside and the environment. The ability to cope with written work. English and Maths GCSEs at Grade D.
Progression/Employment
Level 3 Diploma in Countryside Management or Work Based Learning (Apprenticeships).

Full Time Further EducationYour learning is FREE if you are a UK or EU student, aged under 19 years on 31st August in the academic year you start your course.
Aged over 19?The cost of a full-time course for the academic year 2012/13 (starting September 2012) will be £1,250 per year.
