You spend one day a week in college participating in classroom and practical-based sessions. The other four days are spent working in the workplace putting what you have learned into practice.

When at college, you are taught in the classroom and the workshops. You then take the skills you have learned at college out to the workplace and will be expected to bring in work-based evidence, and build a portfolio with the evidence you have collected in the workplace.

An assessor will visit your workplace to observe your working practices.

All functional skills are delivered at college within your day release.

You gain a nationally recognised qualification while building the basic knowledge required to carry out many plumbing tasks. It will give you an insight into the profession and into future careers open to you.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but on application you will be called in to sit an initial assessment to ensure that you are at the correct level of learning and you will then be invited in to college for an interview with a member of the plumbing team.

On successful completion of the course you can progress to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating. The programme lasts two years and builds on the skills learned at Level 2.
