Sewing

These courses will provide you with the knowledge and techniques for you to improve existing skills to alter ready-made clothes to achieve the perfect fit. You can follow a pattern and make a garment of your choice or bring an ongoing project. Help and advice given.

Sewing machines are available but you can bring your own. Basic sewing kits needed - fabric scissors and snips, hand sewing needles, stitch unpicker, thread, ruler, tailors chalk, tape measure, pins, selection of cotton fabrics, garments to be altered or an ongoing project or a new one, pack of dressmaking tracing paper, a paper pattern to suit your technical ability and suitable fabric.

Introduction to Soft Furnishings - Learn the skills to make lined curtains with various headings, cushions, piping and inserting zips. Help and advice given.

Dressmaking and Dressmaking Techniques - Learn or improve existing dressmaking skills, and construction techniques. Follow a pattern and make a garment of your choice. Bring an ongoing project or start a new one. Help and advice given for simple or more advanced patterns.
