How long is this programme?

This is a one year, full-time, taught programme taken one day per week during the Autumn and Spring Terms.

It may be possible to take this course over two academic years. Please speak to the programme leader if you would prefer to study more slowly.

Who is this programme for?


  • Typically, those working with young people (pre-school to 16 years), including teaching assistants or HLTAs (Higher Level Teaching Assistants), learning mentors, nursery workers or play workers who have completed a foundation degree
  • Those who would like to pursue their education studies alongside their employment.

Entry requirements


  • An IOE Foundation Degree in Working with Children: Education and Well-Being.
  • A similar (240 credit) Foundation Degree from other Institutions.
  • Another 240 credit, Level 5 qualification in a cognate area (at the discretion of the programme leader)
  • We may ask you to attend an interview or provide samples of your previous academic work.

    Any IOE Foundation student who has failed to submit coursework for the foundation degree on at least one occasion will have their B.Ed. /BA application reviewed.

    How is the course assessed?

    By coursework written assignments, an open-book written examination and a presentation.

    Attendance

    Weekly full-day or half-day face-to-face sessions, depending on whether you study full-time or part-time.
