Summary
This Level 3 course is a progression only course, for students who have already completed a full time Level 2 child care course. You will gain further experience of working with children under 8 years of age in a range of child care settings. You will spend two days each week in College and three days each week in a child care setting placement. Placement days are of variable length, but when in schools, you will arrive before the children, between 8.30 and 8.45am and leave after them at around 4.15pm.

- A minimum of 194 GCSE points from five subjects to include English and Maths and a full Level 2 Childcare qualification
- It is strongly recommended that you have a Grade C or above in English, Maths and Science.
- A successful HRC Disclosure and Barring Service check
- You must demonstrate suitability to work with children, show empathy and a keen interest in and commitment to working with and helping others, along with good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate the professional qualities associated with a supervisory role.

What will I be doing on the course?
The course comprises:
- eleven Core Units
- five Specific Early Learning and Child Care Units
- plus a small number of optional units which will be identified at the start of the course.
Some of the units focus on knowledge and understanding and others on skills.
You will also have the opportunity to achieve qualifications in the Functional Skills areas of Improving your own learning and performance, or English, or Mathematics.

Through practical observation and written assignment tasks

What can I do next?
This College has an outstanding record for employment of Early Years workers. On qualifying you can expect to have a wide variety of employment opportunities in schools, nurseries and private childcare settings.
Additional Activities
You may, depending on your prior achievement, resit GSCE English and/or Maths. You may also undertake First Aid, Basic Food Hygiene and Health and Safety Training.
You will have the chance to take part in additional activities, such as charity fund raising, trips and visits.
