Summary

This is the first year of a two year course covering all aspects of ladies hairdressing such as shampooing, colouring techniques, cutting, styling and finishing. In addition you will be working towards Employment Responsibilities and Rights (ERR) and Functional skills qualifications. You will attend college one day a week.

  • Depending on GCSE results you may be asked to attend extra Fuctional Skills session to help gain your Functional Skills qualifications at Level 1.

What will I be doing on the course?

All aspects of ladies hairdressing, theory, practical, Employment Responsibilities and Rights (ERR) and functional skills.

Most of your training will be given in your salon.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in college and in your salon.

Theory and some practical in college, most of your practical assessment will take place in your salon, this will be every 4 - 6 weeks by a college assessor or salon assessor.

What will I need?

You will need to purchase uniform and provide a kit which can be purchased from college and the usual pens and paper.

You will need to find models for your practical assessments in your salon.

What can I do next?

You can work towards your Level 3 qualification or go on other courses, or specialise in certain areas, colour, cutting, technician, theatre work, cruise liners.

Additional Activities

You may have the opportunity to go to Salon International with the college.

Apprenticeship week - activities may run through the week including a hair competition.
