Summary

This programme is designed to prepare you for employment, further education or an Apprenticeship. Each programme will introduce and support the development of work related skills, giving you the opportunity to access work experience and valuable project work within the community. You will be able to choose from the following qualification aims: BTEC Work Skills Award/Certificate/Diploma and Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT at a level suitable for you.

If you are undecided about what you would like to do in the future and need an opportunity to develop and your skills and knowledge in a range of vocational areas we can arrange this for you. Other course elements include: personal and social development, job search, team building and enrichment activities and sessions that will help build your confidence and self-esteem

Entry Requirements

  • You must be between 16-18 years old and not yet ready to study at Level 2+
  • Demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills at Entry Level 3 or above and must demonstrate a willingness to achieve and progress successfully at the end of your programme

What will I be doing on the course?

The programme will also include some essential elements which are:

  • Work experience
  • Projects within the community
  • Vocational tasters across curriculum areas within the college
  • Personal and social development, including independent living skills
  • Job search work shops and employment portfolio work shops
  • Regular 1:1 tutorials to offer you the information advice and guidance you need to progress

How will I be assessed?

Assessment for Functional Skills is exam based. Assessment for BTEC Work Skills is portfolio based and is continuous throughout the programme

What can I do next?

You could progress into:

  • further education
  • an Apprenticeship
  • full or part-time employment
