This apprenticeship programme is suitable for practically minded people who have a creative flair, a lively personality and a genuine interest in people. It is challenging and varied covering a variety of skills to enable students to enter the barbering industry where they will be shaving, cutting and colouring on clients. During the programme you will develop a range of complex barbering skills and theoretical knowledge which will prepare you to work within a competitive service industry. If you are aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme consisting of your main qualification, English, Maths, enterprise and enrichment. The skills developed by the learner include: Client consultation for hair services Colour and lighten hair Cut men's hair Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp Cut facial hair Health & Safety Style men's hair Promote products and services to clients Reception duties Working in the hair industry Create an image based on a theme Display a stock to promote sales How will I be Taught? The delivery of this course will be in the workplace and at college. At College you will cover a combination of structured theory delivery, group work, self-directed study, classroom discussions, research and lectures. In addition you will study towards the Level 2 Award in Workskills, Functional skills English and Maths at Level 2 (if required to do so). In the workplace an assessor is allocated to observe and assess your practical skills. How will I be Assessed? Competence is assessed through observations.
