This course is for those who wish to seek entry into employment in a variety of types of work, such as riding stables, stud farms, livery stables and ancillary industries.

Course Content

The BTEC Level 3 course in Horse Management focuses upon developing the knowledge, understanding and skills required at this level in the equine industry, the role of the horseperson in the industry and the position of the equine industry locally and nationally. Subjects covered include:

• Animal biology
• Horse fitness and training
• Horse husbandry
• Riding and training horses
• Stable skills
• The horse industry
• Work related experience in the horse sector.

Assessment Method

Projects and assignments. Written work, practical experience, presentations and observations.

Progression

On completion of this course you can go on to enter employment in the countryside sector to progress to higher educational vocational qualifications such as BTEC Higher National in Equine Management at University.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs (Grade C or above including English) or a Merit in Horse related Level 2 Diploma. Students will be expected to be able to demonstrate some prior knowledge and experience of working with, handling and riding horses.
