Assessment Method
Each qualification is a combination of mandatory and optional units. To achieve an NVQ at level three a candidate must be assessed as competent in all four of the mandatory units and a choice of four optional units. The choice of optional units will reflect the candidate's work setting. Assessment takes place in the workplace, meeting national standards, using observation, witness testimony, reflective accounts, and professional discussion. The candidate may also be expected to answer written or oral questions and perhaps complete a short project. In the workplace you will need to be actively working with individuals requiring support. An assessor will be allocated unless you already have a qualified work - based assessor. You will also gather evidence and this will be put in a portfolio. Evidence comprises of your work experiences with adults.
Progression
Upon completion of level 3, students may progress onto NVQ level 4 in Care, a Foundation Degree or, depending upon other qualifications and experience, nurse training.
Additional Information
No person can be admitted to a care course if he/she is rendered unsuitable by any criminal conviction (subject to the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974).
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, all students will be interviewed and must be working in a care setting. It is expected that candidates will have experience of working in a care setting and be able to demonstrate they are working in a supervisory capacity. There may be age restrictions on individuals when undertaking certain work activities with Health & Social Care.
