Course Content
Unit 1 ENVS1: The Living Environment. This includes wildlife conservation, the conditions for life on Earth, and a study of land resources. Unit 2 ENVS2: The Physical Environment. This introduces you to the three systems of our planet: the atmosphere, water resources (the 'hydrosphere') and the thin crust of the Earth's surface (the 'lithosphere') where we humans and other land - based animals and plants live.
Assessment Method
Unit 1 - ENVS1: The Living Environment Written unit, 1 hour exam: 60 marks (40% of the total AS marks). This unit comprises five short answer questions (45 marks) and one structured question (15 marks). Unit 2 - ENVS2: The Physical Environment Written unit, 1_ hours exam: 90 marks (60% of the total AS marks). This unit comprises eight short answer questions (75 marks) and one structured question including extended prose (15 marks).
Progression
As part of a group of science or arts A-Level courses, Environmental Studies provides an ideal base for employment, for example ecology and wildlife conservation, geography, geology or climatology. Maybe you'd like to work for a charity, teach, enter politics, or use your A-Level in Environmental Studies as the stepping stone for higher education in a very wide variety of higher education courses, including degrees in areas related to the environment, geography, geology, science, climate, planning and teaching, or a degree in environmental science.
Entry Requirements
GCSE (Grade B or above) in Science (Double Award) or Biology. Other subjects may be considered depending on circumstances. Students must also have GCSE Maths at Grade C or above.
