Vocational Pathways programmes are available to people aged 16-25 requiring a moderate to lower level of additional support in order to move onto higher level courses and employment. The courses are offered at Cheltenham, Coleford and Gloucester campus. Learners work in small groups of 8 - 10 with support and guidance offered by a Personal Tutor, Teaching Assistant, and where appropriate by a Learner Support Assistant (individual support). Vocational Pathways programmes are available to people aged 16-25 requiring a moderate to lower level of additional support in order to move onto higher level courses and employment. The courses are offered at Cheltenham, Coleford and Gloucester campus. Learners work in small groups of 8 - 10 with support and guidance offered by a Personal Tutor, Teaching Assistant, and where appropriate by a Learner Support Assistant (individual support). All courses offered as part of the Vocational Pathway programme aim at promoting students’ independence, social interaction skills and transferable employability skills, with the long term view of students securing employment in either supported or open labour market. As part of the programme, work tasters and where appropriate work experience placements are organised with a selection of students securing part time employment during their time at College. The curriculum follows a personalised approach including: 1. Guidance and help with transition into College involving other agencies as required 2. Initial assessment carried out in a supportive manner with student’s needs in mind 3. Additional support available as required 4. English and Mathematics is fully embedded in the learning to promote reading, writing, speaking & listening and number skills 5. Individual goals are negotiated and set with the students 6. Regular pastoral support is offered 7. Regular review and assessment of students’ progress is a core part of the programme 8. Close communication regarding progress is maintained with families/carers/other agencies throughout the year 9. Transition onto another course or out of college is supported and includes other agencies
Additional NotesAll support arrangements will be assessed during the informal meeting and Transition Programme. The programme may offer a short residential experience with high levels of support. Students will also have opportunities to participate in day excursions and other external learning activities
Entry CriteriaThere are no formal entry requirements. Each student will be invited to attend a Transition Programme where their needs and suitability will be assessed. Studens usually come from specific provision in mainstream Schools or specialist units within the county. We welcome direct enquires from parents and/or guardians.
Progression DetailsStudents have a chance to progress onto: 1. Higher level courses within the College 2. Employment (either supported employment / full / part time employment) 3. Voluntary work
Success InformationOverview of achievements for Vocational Pathway 2011-2012: -This course has an excellent history of success and for 2011-12 we had 97% of our students complete and achieve their qualifications. Student Survey November 2012 Feedback from students is extremely positive and some of this includes: -100% of students stated that the teaching on their course is good -100% of students said that their teachers are supportive -100% of students agreed that their course is well organised and is ran smoothly -100% of students feel safe at College -98% of students agreed that they are learning about things and skills which will help them to progress onto their next course -98% of students stated that staff at College respond to their views
Case StudiesCase Study 1 Kieran joined Foundation Studies at 16 years of age enrolling on our Introduction to Work Skills programme. After completing this one year programme, Kieran progressed on to our Work Skills programme where he excelled in practical food service and developed great customer service skills, as well as gaining a Level 1 Functional Skill in English. With the support of the college Kieran has now secured an Apprenticeship in Hospitality and Catering with a local employer. Case Study 2 Jamie joined Foundation Studies at 17 years of age enrolling on our Introduction to Work Skills programme. Having successfully achieved his Entry Level qualifications, Jamie progressed on to our Work Skills programme studying on the Hospitality and Catering pathway. During his time on these courses Jamie has greatly improved his communication skills and self-confidence. Jamie has also experienced an introduction to the Hospitality industry, which included developing his practical skills in food preparation and food service. Jamie has now secured a place on a Level 1 Catering programme at college where he will continue in is ambition to become a chef and to one day have his own restaurant.
