Performing Arts Level 2 Diploma

This course will provide you with a strong understanding of the various aspects of performing arts and develop your skills as a performer whether it being in acting, musical theatre or both. This course will provide you with a strong understanding of the various aspects of performing arts focusing on acting, musical theatre and the production process. You will work with specialised staff with industry experience and carry out practical work in the theatre, practice studios and dance studio. Mandatory Units: Working in the Performing Arts Industry Professional Development in the Performing Arts Industry Performing Arts Production Process Optional Units: The Development of Dance Acting Skills and Techniques Performing Scripted Plays Musical Theatre Performance As part of the course students will take part in various performances to outside audiences. Past performances have included Theatre in Education tours around local primary schools, “Gut Girls” by Sarah Daniels, “Shelter” by Simon Bent and “Two” by Jim Cartwright. Students will also experience working as part of a production team and undertake roles such as marketing, costume or set design. Income/Salary There is no set income for actors. The majority earn less than £30,000 a year. Well-established actors earn a high income. Most actors are self-employed, and are paid a fee for each contract or performance. All successful applicants will need to have a satisfactory interview, pass a short assessment and audition in addition to showing enthusiasm and interest in the subject area. There is a requirement for appropriate clothing to be worn in class; i.e. loose, comfortable clothing. Students are requested not to wear jewellery to practical classes. Ideally you will have two GCSEs, grades A* to C, including English or drama, or you will have successfully completed a relevant Level 1 qualification with functional skills. Selection requires a successful interview, audition and an excellent reference.

Upon achieving merit or distinction grades, you may apply for a Level 3 extended BTEC diploma in performing arts or musical theatre at Gloucestershire College.

STUDENT CASE STUDY Rickie Leyshon Course: Performing Arts Musical Theatre Level 3 Rickie began his performing life by taking a pre-16 course at Gloucestershire College when he was in year 10 at school. He has then progressed right through from Level 1 to Level 3 in Performing Arts at Gloucester Campus.
