(Hons) Music with Musical Theatre
The three year BA (Hons) Musical Theatre is a ‘triple threat’ style
programme, with a balanced mix of dance, acting and singing, and
quite a heavy practical timetable. Productions, rehearsals and
workshops are mostly located in a genuine off-campus theatre,
working with all the resources of set, lighting, sound, costume and
live pit orchestra. The course also provides opportunities to
specialise in technical and behind the scenes areas like stage and
tour management. Masterclasses given by visiting professionals in
areas as diverse as stage combat and costume making provide
exciting opportunities to work with leading practitioners.
There is production work in the first year, two major productions
in year two, and on this course you can audition for the third year
touring company at the end of your second year, which takes
production work to different venues around England.
The three year BA (Hons) Music with Musical Theatre is designed for
vocalists and is a broader musical training with a specialism in
Musical Theatre. You will be involved in community outreach in year
one, production work in year two, and devising musical theatre work
in year three, alongside individual vocal lessons, ensemble
experience and the study of different Musical Theatre styles. If
you are performance focused you have the option to take dance and
acting classes, and those choosing the composition route within the
BA can centre Music with Musical Theatre on a training for an
aspiring Musical Director.
Perhaps the most exciting thing about our Musical Theatre
programmes is the involvement as teaching staff of West End
professionals supporting your production work – see the department
webpages (http://www.chiuni.ac.uk/music) for more details –
offering you a genuinely challenging environment for the
development of your skills.
