About This Course

Exam Board: AQA Fast Track: N/A Daytime: Cheltenham and RFD Evening: No Exams: N/A Where will this qualification take me? Universities look very favourably at the Extended Project Qualification. “We welcome the introduction of the Extended Project and would encourage you to undertake one as it will help you develop independent study and research skills ease the transition from school/college to Higher Education.” University of Cambridge What will I be doing on the course? This qualification can be taken in the second year of A Levels and attracts the same UCAS points as an AS. The Grades A* to E can be achieved. Students are required to research a topic of their own choosing and to produce: Either a 5,000 written report and presentation OR A 1,000 written report to support an artefact which the student produces, such as a film, DVD, performance, multi media presentation, exhibition, etc. Each candidate will be assigned a tutor who will help in the choice of a topic for the project and also support the student to develop their study skills and research skills, which are necessary to complete the project and organise the presentation. Other important skills you will need to possess include project management and writing skills as well as learning and thinking skills. Throughout the whole process, students must keep a production log of the various stages in the project's construction. The log will also include evidence of research completed and the student's comments and evaluation of the process.

Additional Notes

For full time students the course will form part of a larger programme of study which consists of timetabled sessions, enrichment activities, work experience and private study time. To achieve this a student will normally be asked to select from columns of the 6th Form matrix in each year of study. If a student falls below this programme requirement they may be classed as part time by some external agencies and may be required to pay fees for their tuition and/or exams. Please check with the tutor at interview that the subjects you have selected form a full-time programme. Every full time 6th Form student will have a personal tutor and will study a tutorial programme. The tutor will be responsible for the pastoral care of the student and for the tracking and monitoring of their progress on the course. This subject can be selected on its own for part time study for which tuition fees may be payable (please consult Student Services for fee concessions). Part time students may also be required to pay exam fees. You may have the opportunity to go on trips during the year. A small charge will be payable for these visits.
