When students are accepted on a full vocational programme they can access language support offered by Learning Links.
Success InformationMany of our students work towards qualifications in ESOL (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing), Maths and possibly ICT. Our students can take qualifications at a range of levels from Entry 1 to Level 2. For September 2013 we are builiding in work-related activities, which will improve our students' employability skills and job prospects.
Case StudiesGloucestershire College has recognised that many ESOL 16-18 learners will require extra support to improve their level of English before moving into the college's wide range of vocational courses. We introduced this successful programme in September 2012 and learners have given some very positive feedback about their experiences: 'I enjoy coming to my ESOL classes every day and I really like IT. I understand Maths a lot more now. The teachers have also helped me to apply for a course for next year.' Pawel (ESOL student 2012-13) 'I needed to improve my English to do a Childcare course, so I joined the full-time ESOL group. I have worked hard to improve my English and Maths and I have applied for the course I would like to do. I feel a lot more confident now.' Kim (ESOL student 2012-13) Based on the success of this course, we are pleased to continue to offer such opportunities for ESOL 16-18 students in September 2013.
