About This Course

Domestic Installer You will learn about science and principles, wiring systems, appropriate theory and regulations as well as health and safety policies. This is a modular course that is 50% theory and 50% practical and where better to practice than in Gloucestershire College's excellent purpose-built Building Services Department.

Additional Notes

You will need to wear safety shoes when you come in to the college for workshop activities. Please note that trainers are not suitable. You will also need a standard set of drawing equipment, together with a scientific calculator. Tutors recommend each student buys a copy of: BS7671-2008 (Amendment 1 2011) and IEE On Site Guide

Entry Criteria

The course is designed for students who wish to train as electricians but cannot commit to full time study. To be considered you’ll need to have three GCSE grades A* to C in Maths, English and Sciences. You also need good hand to eye coordination and a natural enthusiasm for the work.

Progression Details

This course prepares you for a career as an electrician. After one year you will be suitably qualified to apply for a position as a trainee electrician but to fully qualed you will need to take further training.
