This sports-focused course is aimed at students who wish to gain a general knowledge of the sports industry and provides an opportunity to take a course that combines practical sporting activity with sports theory. You will learn about the sports industry, participate in sporting activities and learn about the functions of the body, as well as health safety and preventing injury. You will further develop your English, Maths and ICT skills to help you to complete your coursework and prepare for further study or employment.

This sports-focused course is aimed at students who wish to gain a general knowledge of the sports industry and provides an opportunity to take a course that combines practical sporting activity with sports theory. You will learn about the sports industry, participate in sporting activities and learn about the functions of the body, as well as health safety and preventing injury. You will further develop your English, Maths and ICT skills to help you to complete your coursework and prepare for further study or employment.

Units studied are: The sports industry; Health, safety and injury; Preparation for sports; The body in action; Work-based project; Practical sports. You will have the opportunity to receive coaching in a variety of sports.

All of the units are assessed by coursework. The course also features a residential trip, guest speakers from the sports industry and a relevant work placement in your first year. Assessment is carried out using a variety of methods including individual work projects, group work, presentations, research and case studies.

You benefit from our well equipped computer suites. There are also open access computer resources in the library. Practical activities will be carried out in appropriate sporting environments.

Four GCSEs grade D or above including English Language and Maths, or achievement on a Level 1 Foundation Pathway to include Functional Skills at Level 1.
