Case StudiesSTAFF INDUSTRY EXPERT Jo Wheeler-Smith - Lecturer Jo studied at GC, and then learnt to do aromatherapy, which led to management and later on working on a cruise ship offering beauty treatment. This job enabled her to travel the world, including the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Australia on a cruise ship, which she did for 3 years. Jo then returned to salon management, before completing her VHC and becoming a teacher at GC. “Since studying at Gloucestershire College I have developed my range of skills and, managed beauty salons, travelled round the world on cruise ships and have now been teaching at the college for five years. My experiences working in the beauty industry have been varied and memorable; the highlight being getting paid to travel around the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Australia, using the beaches as my beauty parlour!” “The vast range of opportunities within the beauty industry makes it a very exciting and popular one to be involved in. Here at Gloucestershire College, our staff have a wide variety of experiences from managing health spas to company training, and they are able to use this commercial experience to provide teaching that is relevant to the student hoping to work in the industry.”
