Individual learning targets are set each term and you will receive
regular feedback on your progress in meeting these targets. For
each subject you will create a folder that showcases all of the
things you have learnt. Evidence will be in the form of photos,
written work and witness statements that describe what you have
achieved. You will be assessed at a level that suits you. The
functional skills in English, maths and ICT are assessed by an
externally-set test.
You will learn in small groups in a range of settings to allow you
to develop your independence, confidence, social and employability
skills. Lessons will be very practical and you will be able access
all of the resources in the CAL centre such as our kitchen, ICT
suite, art room, and our social enterprise shop on our Oxpens
campus in the centre of Oxford.
You gain:
Functional skills in English, maths and ICT
Certificate in Skills Towards Enabling Progression Entry 3
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
However, your offer will be subject to an initial assessment in
English and maths, an observation in your current educational
setting, and a successful transition period from year 11.
Where possible, transition arrangements or a short taster day at
the CAL centre will be arranged so that you can meet the staff team
and we can discuss your needs. If you have an SEN (Special
Educational Needs) statement we will consider it alongside your
S139a, and reports from other agencies, to ensure that we can
effectively meet the needs indicated.
Successful completion of this course can lead to further courses within City of Oxford College. You will then be able to continue to build on your existing skills and develop further skills in employability vocational studies and independence.
