This CCTV training course covers everything required by a CCTV operator working in security or the security industry – maintaining security systems, set up incident reporting, handling evidence, and communication with the police.

From 2006 all security officers need to have been licensed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). With this award, you can apply for your licence.

You study two modules, which include a common security module and a CCTV specialist module. You learn how to assess and reduce the risk of violence, identify behaviour that indicates an escalation towards violence, and communicate post-incident support.

Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

This accredited qualification has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a CCTV operative.

The qualification comprises three mandatory units:

Unit 1 - Working in the Private Security Industry
Unit 2 - Working as a CCTV Operator
Unit 3 - Practical operation of CCTV equipment

Teaching/learning methods: Course workbook quizzes and tests, group work, power point presentations, and practical training in the use of radios and CCTV equipment.

Assessment methods: 2 multiple choice exams, and a practical assessment of CCTV equipment.

You gain the skills to be able to work in CCTV control rooms so you can monitor CCTV in shopping malls or local authority control centers, or monitor CCTV in large commercial premises.

The qualification you gain is a Level 2 Award in CCTV Operations (public space surveillance)
