You cover subjects such as handling and storing resources, work
relationships, providing working platforms, preparation maintenance
and use of woodworking power tools and basic wood jointing
techniques. You learn functional skills too.
You are assessed on your practical work and job knowledge.
The course blends practical workshop skills and activities with
underpinning knowledge that is delivered in the classroom. There is
an active moodle site so you can view further information and link
to interactive activities outside of lessons.
You develop and build practical skills and knowledge through a range of units. Functional skills also form part of the course.
Applicants for a Level 2 programme will normally have:
- At least 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above and/or a completed Level 1
award
- GCSEs to include English and Maths at Grade D or above or Level 1
Functional Skills qualifications
- The willingness to study for an additional qualification in
English and/or Maths

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an
internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and
numeracy needs supported within the programme.
This course prepares you for employment as a work-based learner apprentice in carpentry and joinery or further study at Level 2.
