This Diploma in Art and Design provides you with vocational
skills for entry to employment or progression to further and higher
education. It introduces you to pathways in art and design fashion
graphics and photography.
The six vocational units are:
• 2D and 3D communication
• vocational contexts
• expose and develop ideas
• production and outcome
• working to visual arts briefs
• working to 3D design crafts briefs
Units 3 and 4 form the basis of the final major project. This is
the culmination of the course and reflects the project proposal.
You produce the project proposal during the spring term. In
addition you also undertake a short course in visual arts. It runs
over the first half of the autumn term and provides you with an
extra award.
All six units of the course are assessed. Assessment is continual
and done internally with some units also being verified
externally.
You learn by working in a range of specialist studios. The course
runs on a four-day week either Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to
Friday. Classes are 9am until 4pm unless otherwise advised.
This BTEC diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade C. You are introduced to pathways in art and design, fashion, graphics and photography.
Applicants for a Level 2 programme will normally have:
- At least 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above and/or a completed Level 1
award
- GCSEs to include English and Maths at Grade D or above or Level 1
Functional Skills qualifications
- The willingness to study for an additional qualification in
English and/or Maths

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an
internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and
numeracy needs supported within the programme.
You have the opportunity to progress to a range of art and design courses here at City of Oxford College or elsewhere.
