The Programme

After an introductory phase which aims to develop a wide range of art and design skills, you will select specialist units working on a range of practical and vocational assignments to prepare a portfolio of work in your chosen specialist area. The course encourages learners to consider a range of art and design pathways whilst also offering specific specialist pathways in photography and graphic design. You will be encouraged to push the boundaries of art and design to help you progress your aspirations for the future.
The Programme Content
During the first year of the course learners have the
opportunity to work in a range of different art and design
disciplines including art, photography and graphic design. The
variety of art and design skills learnt through a series of
workshops allows learners to make an educated decision to choose
what areas they may like to specialise in. Throughout the course
learners are given vocational briefs which are more open to
personal interpretation with specialist art and design options,
supported by in depth workshops this allows learners to fully
explore the specialisms of their choice. The BTEC National Diploma
in Art and Design is an art and design programme with four clear
pathway/specialist choices as above.
The course offers students a generic start point, introduces
learners to a range of ideas, materials, processes and techniques
via a diagnostic phase which introduces specialist pathways in fine
art, photography, and graphic design. Students will opt into one of

Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including Art and Design or a BTEC Diploma in Art and Design at Level 2. You will be asked to provide a portfolio of recent art work showing your skills and interest in art and design which reflects your chosen specialism.
Costs
At the beginning of the course you will need to buy some basic equipment and sketchbooks costing approximately £25. There will also be a studio fee of £90 per year which covers general costs of studio equipment and specialist materials*.

Progression
This course aims to prepare and provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to work within the creative industries. It gives you both the qualifications and portfolio of work necessary for entry into higher education or our one year Diploma in Foundation Studies. It can also lead to a range of interesting and exciting employment opportunities in a variety of creative art and design settings.
