About This Course:This new course in Technical Support at NQ level includes subjects that are current in the IT industry and which will prepare you for progression to our HND Computing: Technical Support or Networking courses. It will teach you the basic skills required for a job in the desktop support/networking industry and includes a balance of theoretical and practical delivery.
What You Need:- Three National Courses including Intermediate 2 English and Maths/Numeracy with an A or B pass, OR
- Three Standard Grades at Credit level, including English and Mathematics/Numeracy, OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

What You Study:Your studies will include topics such as Computer Systems Architecture, Installing and Maintaining Hardware and Troubleshooting a Desktop Operating System. These units will provide you with an understanding of how hardware components work and how the operating system is installed on the hardware and managed. You’ll learn how to set up the computers you have built to work on a small network and how data is passed from one computer to another on that network.
Do you have a mobile device? Our new unit, Mobile Technology, Security and Peripherals, will teach you how to manage your mobile device from the point of view of security, backing it up and connecting it to other networks. Finally, you will learn how to deal with a possible intrusion into your computer systems and how to prevent further unwarranted access. These units are taught using industry standard software.
After The Course:• Continuing study – on successful completion of the course you may progress to the higher level Technical Support course at City of Glasgow College
How Long:One year, starting in August.
