This apprenticeship is for people who want to develop their career in childcare. You will earn as you learn, working as a supervisor for children and young people as a nursery nurse or playgroup leader or as a childminder in your own home.

You will be working in the workplace most of the time, earning a wage and gaining practical skills and experience. You will attend college on day release, improving your theoretical knowledge and gaining additional skills and knowledge needed to be successful in your career working with children and families. You will spend time working closely with children and young people, learning about their social, physical and personal development. You will also help develop children’s communication skills, ensure they are well looked after, kept active, happy and nourished. You will also help children develop social and practical skills. As an advanced apprentice, you will be working on your own initiative, planning and organising your own work and supervising others.

What next

After this apprenticeship, you may find work as an early years worker, a childminder, a playgroup leader, a care worker or a youth support and community worker. If you already have secure employment, you may move up through the levels of work. There are also opportunities to undertake further training or assessment.
