This course is designed to develop the advanced skills, knowledge
and performance of teaching support staff in schools. Taught
subjects include Relationships, Supporting & Assessing
Learning, Literacy & Numeracy, Inclusion & Special Needs,
Health & Safety and Professional Practice. Apprentices will be
assessed by a college assessor, who mentors and guides them,
providing meaningful feedback on their practice and enabling them

year. What will I Study? The course is delivered using a blended
approach, combining taught sessions and assessment in the
workplace, and comprises: • Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support
for Teaching and Learning in Schools • Functional Skills Level 2 in
English, Mathematics & ICT • Personal Learning and Thinking
Skills (PLTS) • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) How
will I be Taught? Apprentices will attend taught sessions for the
Diploma once every two weeks on a Tuesday from 1.15-4.15.
Additional sessions for Functional Skills will be held on the
alternate Tuesdays for Apprentices to attend if required. How will
I be Assessed? • Apprentices will be allocated a dedicated assessor
who will carry out all assessment in the workplace • Functional
Skills are assessed through on-line tests and observations (for
English) • Portfolio of work based evidence and assignments to
assess knowledge What our students say? Martin says...the course
