This course is designed to develop the skills, knowledge and
performance within Early Years settings, it is for those working in
the childcare sector. Taught subjects include Child Development,
Health & Safety and Communication. Apprentices will be assessed
by a college assessor, who mentors and guides them, providing
meaningful feedback on their practice and enabling them to develop

course is delivered using a blended approach, combining taught
sessions and assessment in the workplace, and comprises: • Level 2
Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce •
Paediatric First Aid Certificate • Functional Skills Level 1 in
English, Mathematics & ICT • Personal Learning and Thinking
Skills (PLTS) • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) How
will I be Taught? Teaching, learning and assessment will take place
through taught sessions, group work, role play, self study and
assignment work. You will be assessed in the work place by a
qualified assessor who will observe you at work. You will attend
college one day a week where you will be able to share and reflect
on practice and gain underpinning knowledge. How will I be
Assessed? • Apprentices will be allocated a dedicated assessor who
will carry out all assessment in the workplace • Functional Skills
are assessed through on-line tests and observations (for English) •
Portfolio of work based evidence and assignments to assess
