What will I Study? Unit 1 :Families and Households you will study
:The relationship of the family to the social structure and social
change.The diversity of contemporary family and household
structures.The nature and extent of changes within the family in
contemporary society The nature of childhood, and changes in the
status of children in the family and society. Demographic trends in
the UK since 1900 Unit 2 Education and Research Methods you will
study: The role and purpose of education in contemporary society.
Differential educational achievement of social groups by social
class, gender and ethnicity. Relationships and processes within
schools, with particular reference to teacher/pupil relationships,,
and the organisation of teaching and learning. How will I be
Taught? Varied and interesting lessons including : Sociological
studies Videos Newspaper articles, Workbooks ,Debates,The use of IT
– Internet / Intranet ,Tests – quizzes at end of lessons, end of
units etc.• With 4.5 hours a week of teaching time you are expected
to do a minimum of 4.5 hours extra work outside of lesson time. How
will I be Assessed? Module 1:1 hr exam 40% of the marks at AS
Level, 20% of the marks at A2 Level. (Summer exam) Module 2: 2hr
exam 60% of the marks at AS Level, 30% of the marks at A2 Level.
(Summer exam) Module 3: 1.5hr exam. 40% of the marks at A2 Level
(Summer exam) Module 4: 2hr exam. 60% of the marks at A2. What our
