Level: Level 3

Sociology enables us to study human society. It covers a variety of theoretical viewpoints which helps us understand how humans interact with the social world. Students will analyse how we go about acquiring our culture. You will also analyse and evaluate the issue of social control and then, assess social inequality in contemporary society.

You should be interested in the social world, have a keen interest in reading, literature and current affairs. Be able to construct essays well and take a logical approach to problem solving. Sociology encompasses all political and economic areas of the UK, and students should be prepared to look at the UK in depth from these perspectives.

There is opportunity for visits to Courts of Law, Student Sociology days in various University locations in the UK, external speakers on all matter of topics within the syllabus.
