will I Study? Unit 3 :Mass Media - The relationship between
ownership and control of the mass media.. The mass media,
globalisation and popular culture. The processes of selection and
presentation of the content of the news.. Media representations of
age, social class,ethnicity, gender, sexuality and disability. The
relationship between the mass media, media content and
presentation, and audiences. The new media and their significance
for an understanding of the role of the media in contemporary
society.. Unit 4 Crime and Deviance : Theoies of crime, deviance,
social order and social control.The social distribution of crime
and deviance by age, ethnicity, gender, locality and social class,
Globalisation and crime ;the mass media and crime; green crime;
human rights and state crimes.Crime control, prevention and
punishment,victims, the role of the criminal justice system The
sociological study of suicide The connections between sociological
theory and methods How will I be Taught? Varied and interesting
lessons including : Sociological studies Videos Newspaper articles,
Workbooks ,Debates,The use of IT – Internet / Intranet ,Tests –
quizzes at end of lessons, end of units etc.• With 4.5 hours a week
of teaching time you are expected to do a minimum of 4.5 hours
extra work outside of lesson time. How will I be Assessed? Module
3: Mass Media : 1.5hrs . 40% of the marks at A2 Level. ( summer
exam) Module 4: Crime and Deviance and Theory and Methods: 2 hours
Data Response exam. 60% of the marks at A2 Level. (Summer exam)
