Public Services Foundation Diploma

Course Length: Two years Course Schedule: Two days a week during school term time 9.00am to 3.00pm. Entry Requirements:

This Diploma is designed to keep your options open. It could lead to the Public Services Higher Diploma, one of the other Higher Diplomas available, another Level two course at the College or an Apprenticeship with an employer. The programme also allows you to find out about the wide range of jobs and careers available within the public services sector.

Course Description:

The Foundation Diploma in Public Services is an ideal course for you if you are interested in public services and would like an introduction to this important and rewarding sector. There are 5.5 million people involved in the public services sector so there are plenty of different options for you to investigate, from education and health to the armed forces, police services or local and central government. The Foundation Diploma will give you a good introduction to the whole spectrum of public services in the UK and help you find out about the array of challenging careers available and the skills you need to work within them. You will learn about safety and protection services, see how important health and wellbeing is to the community and look at which local services are offered where you live. The Diploma allows you to learn in a practical, creative way that combines academic study with real life learning and hands-on experience, with at least ten days work experience during the course. Work placements and field trips with public services professionals will give you first-hand, up to date information and help you apply what you have learnt and develop people skills that will be valuable whichever career you choose.
