Summary:
This is an introductory qualification that will confer a ‘threshold license to teach’. All new teachers in the learning and skills sector must complete this qualification. The programme lasts for 10 weeks. There are, therefore, up to 40 hours of “contact” time and it is estimated that learners will need to provide another 30 hours over the 10-12 weeks to carry out research and work on the assignments required by the programme.

The class based work is designed to enable learners to prepare for these assignments.
Course Code: B0144 and H0165 Minimum Age: 19 Start Date: 09/01/2013 End Date: 20/03/2013 Course Length: Ten weeks Course Schedule: 4 hours per week Entry Requirements:Applicants need not be in a current teaching role to apply. You should have English at level 2 and a qualification in the subject you wish to teach- usually at least to level 3.
Core Skills:Lesson planning, use of resources, assessment of learners, legislation and codes of practice, mimimum core, ground rules, record keeping, methods of teaching and learning, learning styles.
Assessment:Via prescribed practical and theoretical assignments linked to class based sessions.
