Phoenix Purple

Summary:

Phoenix Purple is a transitional course designed especially to suit students on the Autistic Spectrum. It is for those who do not yet feel ready to access a mainstream course elsewhere within the college and require a specialist curriculum to meet their individual needs and prepare them for their next step.

Course Code: H0029 Minimum Age: 16 Maximum Age: 25 Start Date: 02/09/2013 End Date: 05/07/2013 Course Length: 1 year, can progress to 2nd year if required Course Schedule: 4 days per week (in special circumstances this may be be less) Entry Requirements:

No formal entry requirments. Students must have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

If you would like to apply for this course then please contact your Guidance Advisor who will direct you through the application process. When you apply you will be invited to attend one of a number of interview days that run throughout the year.

Assessment:

No formal assessment unless you undertake qualifications alongside the course

Academic Progression:

In the past students have moved onto further courses at college in areas such as:•GCSE or A Level
•BTEC Diplomas at level 2 or 3
•Project Search to prepare for employment

Career Progression:

The course is designed to promote:

Full Description:

Monday, Tuesday and Friday are mandatory days and the student then has the choice of attending on either a Wednesday or Thursday.

Each student’s timetable is based upon choices made from the basic Phoenix Purple timetable. This covers a broad range of subjects such as:

• Communication & Social Skills– Access to Speech and Language Therapist, Radio, Confidence and Independence Building, Individual and Group Tutorial
• Life Skills– Catering, Practical Budgeting and Number skills and Travel training
• Creative Subjects– Animation, Film Making, Art & Crafts, Music, Photography and Creative Writing
• Optional Qualifications- Functional Skills English and Maths or BTEC/GCSE qualifications alongside Phoenix Purple if needed as part of transition to further mainstream courses
• Preparation for Life & Work– Citizenship, Study Skills, Fundraising, Enterprise, Project Teams

In addition to this there is also opportunity for 1:1 Teaching or support where required. Students are encouraged to be flexible and swap sessions throughout the year.

The course is designed to last one year, however there is the opportunity to continue for a second year if this is required.
