Course Content: This course is designed to provide a broad-based
vocational education within art, craft and design. It offers
students the opportunity to develop their creative skills,
knowledge and understanding; enabling them to gain an understanding
of the context and vocational relevance of their work and to
prepare them for entry into higher education, further training,
employment or self-employment in the art, craft and design
sectors.
Project work is set to allow students to experience a wide range of
specialism’s including life drawing, printmaking, painting, 3D
techniques, textiles, art history and contemporary studies. There
are also opportunities to negotiate access to other specialist
areas during personal projects including digital processes and
photography. In addition to practical techniques, importance is
placed on higher order thinking, generation and management of
creative ideas and employability skills including research,
analysis and direction of self identified briefs. A strong tutorial
programme ensures learners are supported in developing a
professional approach to a reflective practice.
Field trips and gallery visits enrich and underpin practical and
contextual work in these subject specialism’s and students are
given the opportunity to work on live briefs where possible to gain
genuine experience and insight into the demands of the creative
industries. Entry Qualification: Students need at least 5 GCSE
passes at Grade C or above one of which must be Maths or English.
It is desirable for students to have gained a Grade C or above in
Maths and English. (However, exception will be made for students

ability within Art and Design). Students will be expected to re-sit
Maths or English exams to bring them up to the appropriate level.
