Course Code: D5401 Course Length: Approximately 12 months Entry Requirements:There are no formal requirements, though ideally learners will have completed a relevant Level 3 qualification and entrance onto the NVQ Level 4 in Advice and Guidance is designed to reflect the role and responsibilities of candidates who are employed as guidance practitioners working in either careers guidance (employment assistants); educational guidance (e.g. student services staff in colleges and universities) or adult guidance (e.g. employment services staff), or practitioners working in LSC adult guidance networks.
Core Skills:This course develops the skills needed to give effective guidance and advice within a education or employment environment. This course is recommended for employees working in a guiding role; who want to gain a qualification through a flexible combination of workshops and assessments in the workplace.
In this course learning is based around providing advice and guidance skills that enable the individual to ensure that their organisation achieves its objectives and continuously improves its performance for its clients.
Assessment:Training and assessments are mainly delivered in the workplace though some of the content can be delivered in college. Assessment is via a variety of methods, including case studies, assignments, practical assessments and projects.
Career Progression:Career or academic progression may include development or promotion at work or within this sector and progression into higher education.
Full Description:This Level 4 NVQ is ideal for developing skills and knowledge whilst working within world of advice and guidance. This qualification offers the unique opportunity to earn whilst learning in this sector. Real work experience, which is personalised to each learner’s aspirations and interests, is integrated into the programme.
To achieve a full award, candidates must complete 8 units in total, four mandatory units and four optional units, which will be chosen from a range of 26 units reflecting the current role and responsibilities of the learner. The 4 mandatory units are:
- Develop interrelations with advice and guidance clients
- Manage personal case load
- Evaluate and develop own contribution to the service
- Operate within networks
The additional four units required to complete the full award will be chosen from the range of units reflecting the current role and responsibilities of the learner.
Training and assessments are delivered in the workplace, except some of the content, which may be undertaken in college.
