Summary:

This extremely popular course will give you a good introduction to the practical skills and theory you will need to pursue a career as a bricklayer.

By the end of your year's programme you will have gained up to three of the four elements needed to complete a basic Level 2 Apprenticeship Framework:

• Technical certificate
• Health & Safety test (if carried out as enrichment)
• Key skills

Course Code: A0034 Course Length: One year Entry Requirements:

Level 1 Bricklaying Craft Diploma plus either 2 GCSEs at Grade D or above in Maths and English or Level 1 in Application of Number and Communications.

Career Progression:

Many of our students move into employment and gain the NVQ Level 2 on a construction site, needing only portfolio building sessions and site visits to ensure that they have covered all the criteria required by the NVQ awarding body.

There are seven units - 3 core units and 4 units that are trade specific.

Core Units

• Safe working practices 1
• Information, quantities and communications with others 2
• Construction and technology 2

Trade Specific Units

• Interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures
• Thin joint masonry and masonry cladding
• Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
• Building cavity walling, forming masonry structures
