Summary:

Your college days will include lectures, practical classes, tutorials and supervised study in open learning and learning workshops under the guidance of a member of staff. These contribute towards 'guided learning hours'. Each unit is timetabled for approximately 60 guided learning hours. In addition, you will need to undertake private study. This will vary according to the nature of the unit but will probably involve a minimum of a further two hours per unit per week.

The School's BTEC Level 3 Engineering Diploma programmes are ideal if you:

  • are in, or plan to enter employment
  • AND have achieved four GCSEs at Grades A - C including Mathematics and a science plus an appropriate subject that has tested the use of English Language
  • OR a BTEC First Diploma
  • OR an appropriate Level 2 programme plus additional units in Mathematics.

In addition a pre-entry task must be completed to a high standard.

Core Skills:

Level 3 Engineering Diplomas are comprised of 12 units. The content varies according to which course you take but all include the following six Core Units:

  • Health and Safety
  • Communications for Technicians
  • Mathematics for Technicians
  • Project
  • Principles (Electrical and Electronic or Mechanical)
Assessment:

Your progress will be assessed through case studies, time constrained assessments and work-based projects. We’ll give you full details in your course handbook, when you start the programme.

Academic Progression:

After successfully completing this course you will be able to progress to one of our range of BTEC Higher National Certificates/ Diplomas.
