This course is designed preferably for those employed in the Construction Industry who wish to gain the knowledge and practical skills required to take the first steps towards becoming a bricklayer.
Course Code: B5257 Course Length: Two years Course Schedule: One and a half days per week Entry Requirements:Level 1 Bricklaying Craft Diploma and a basic level of Literacy and Numeracy broadly equivalent to GCSE Grade D.
You should be able the demonstrate an interest in the craft of bricklaying and have a willingness to learn. All students will be invited to an advisory interview prior to joining the course.

Career Progression:If you are currently employed in the bricklaying industry, you may continue your studies and gain an NVQ2, needing only portfolio building sessions and site visits to ensure you have covered all the criteria required by the NVQ awarding body.
Full Description:There are seven units - 3 core units and 4 units that are trade specific.
Core Units
- Safe working practices 1
- Information, quantities and communications with others 2
- Construction and technology 2
Trade Specific Units
- Interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures
- Thin joint masonry and masonry cladding
- Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
- Building cavity walling, forming masonry structures
