This course prepares students whose first language is not
English for Academic study at university and for working and
socialising in an English-speaking environment.
Reading College is a large government college with over 7,000
students, studying at all levels through to Foundation Degree. In
addition to our language centre, we also have a professional and
teacher training centre with excellence in curriculum
innovation.
Our students study not just English but Accounting; Business and
Management; Creative Arts; Engineering; Hospitality and Catering;
Science and Health; Hair and Beauty; Photography and Film; Media
and much more. This means that we have expertise in many fields,
amazing facilities and the ability for progression through us or
our partner universities.
You will study for 16 hours per week of general and academic
English (subject to your level) including one hour of
individual/group tutorial:
Free study materials
Studies in English Language, Literature, culture
Cambridge English and IELTs exam preparation (subject to your
level)
Regular tutorials with your individual course tutor
Computer-based language learning
Free Wi-Fi
One excursion per term
In addition to your studies, you will go on educational trips to
museums and galleries and you can enjoy a range of social
activities such as an international day, when you can enjoy food
from other countries.
We offer sports such as Football, Basketball, a running club, Zumba
(dance exercise). Other activities include a film club, debating
society etc. Most of these are free!
Tier 4 Student Visa – Your English will need to be at B1 (IELTS
4.0 or equivalent in each discipline) and you will need evidence of
your English level to satisfy the UKBA.
Student Visitor/Extended Student Visitor Visa
You can join the full time English programme even if your level of
English is below IELTS 4.0.
The Extended Student visa currently permits students to come and
study for a full academic year (max 11 months for English
only).
Many students complete their English course and then join our International Foundation Programme for University. Others go on to study for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at a British university. You will be given good support to move on. We have excellent links with university and we are an Associate college partner to Oxford Brookes, Bucks New and Bedfordshire Universities.
