Description
Full TimeThis bilingual course provides a sound base to progress into a
relevant level 3 qualification or employment within the agriculture
industry. There are 6 units completed over 1 year which include
–
• Undertake Work Related Experience within the Land-based
Industry
• Environmental and Land-based Business
• Introduction to Farm Animal Production
• Introduction to Land-based Machinery Operation
• Introduction to Animal and Plant Husbandry
• Participate in Providing Estate Maintenance

These are taught mainly through practical hands on sessions, classroom activities, visits and guest speakers. Farm duties will be undertaken throughout the year on the 1000 acre farm and forestry estate, where you will gain valuable work related experience alongside the farm staff on the dairy, beef and sheep enterprises. You will also need to undertake a 1 day a week work placement throughout the course within a relevant Land-based business.
How you will gain the qualification
You will gain the qualification through the successful
completion of practical assessments, course work and classroom
tests.
What qualifications you need
4 GCSEs at A*-D including English Language/Welsh and either
Maths or Science. Or successful completion of a Level 1
qualification in a related subject.
Prospective students will be interviewed to establish their
suitability for the course.
Enthusiasm and commitment are essential.
Students progressing from Level 1 must show Literacy and
Numeracy skills at Level 1 or above in order to enrol.
Entry requirements may be waived for mature learners. This is dependent on other qualifications and experience.
