General information
The IAB is the longest established professional body for book-keeping. It was formed in 1973, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards in book-keeping. It holds its examinations in over 90 countries throughout the world. This course is suited to those who have little or no experience of finance, and who may be looking for a career change. Candidates will learn the basics of business routines and from this foundation can go confidently on to Level 2. Double entry is not covered (see Level 2). This course is for 11 weeks and therefore candidates can quickly progress to their next challenge.

Course content
- Preparing and processing book-keeping documents - including invoices and credit notes
- Record credit transactions - includes recording invoices in daybooks
- Making and receiving payments, Processing receipts and payments (cash and cheques), Remittance advices
- Recording receipts and payments, Maintaining a cashbook, Reconcile the cashbook with the bank statement
- Maintaining petty cash records, Petty cash vouchers and the analysed petty cash book, Maintain the petty cash balance.
Teaching and assessment
This is an 11 week course. However to be successful you must be prepared to do some independent study. There is a 2 hour exam and a College based assignment.
Entry requirements
A good standard of maths and English is required.
Additional course costs
IAB Registration fee £65 (fee subject to change).This covers the examinations and assignments, and full membership of the IAB for 12 months. A course book (approximately £25).
Progression
IAB Certificate in Manual Book-keeping Level 2 or IAB Level 1 Award in Computerised Book-keeping.
Dates and times
This course begins in September and February each year and runs on Monday* evenings from 6:00pm to 9.00pm (*subject to change).
The next start dates will be February 11th 2013 and September 2013.
