Hospitality and Catering Level 1
General information
This is a one year programme to introduce students to the vocational field of catering. There will be the opportunity to achieve a full certificate which will include credits in catering, food service, functional skills and work skills. Trips and experiences outside of the College environment are provided to enrich your hospitality and catering knowledge.

- Customer service in the hospitality industry
- Introduction to food commodities
- Basic food preparation
- Basic cooking
- Preparing for an interview
- Working in a team
Plus Functional Skills in English, maths and IT.

Teaching and assessment
Assessment is continuous and consists of collating material for a portfolio, observation of practical skills, successful completion of 3 functional skills exams.
The course team will review students’ progress formally three times a year in relation to the course aims and their individual development targets.
Entry requirements
Assessment in Entry Level 3 English and Entry Level 3 maths.
Additional course costs
Contributions to educational visits and course activities. Non-slip, solid flat leather shoes are needed for working in the practical sessions and pen and paper.
Progression
Students will achieve a City and Guilds Certificate in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry at Level 1.
Dates and times
This course runs 13 hours per week. The duration of this course is 36 weeks.
