The advantage of such a qualification is that it has been developed collaboratively with employers, professionals and institutions. It is vocationally relevant, designed to meet the needs of a diverse workforce and validated by the University of Greenwich.

Course content
The programme is made up of compulsory and optional courses to include:
- Academic Skills (core skills for studying at higher education)
- Work Based Learning (carried out in the working environment with the mentor)
- Introduction to Care Policy
- Managing Business Resources in Care Settings
- Care Practice in the Community
- Contemporary Issues in Care
- Managing daycare and residential settings
- Ethics of Care
- Empowering and supporting individuals
- Research methods
- Mental Health and Intellectual Disability
- Promoting Independence
Teaching and assessment
Assessment is through academic and work based assignments, through presentations both group and individual and through portfolio evidence.
Entry requirements
- Students must be 18 years or over at enrolment
- Students must hold a Level 3 qualification i.e. NVQ, BTEC National, A Level or Access to HE Diploma, NNEB, DCE
- ALL students must be working in a relevant setting and have some existing experience of such settings
- Students will be considered on their individual experience and merits
Additional course costs
The fee for international students is £8500.
Progression
Successful completion of the Foundation Degree results in a guaranteed place to study a final year ‘top-up’ BA/BSc degree at the University of Greenwich. This programme does not provide progression to the BA in Social Work or Nursing Degrees.
Dates and times
The Full time route is two days per week and will run on Thursdays and Fridays (15 hours in total) for the 2011 academic year. International students can only study on the full time route.
